Welcome to the UX in the City: Oxford 2016 site!

UX in the City: Oxford was a new, hands-on event for the User Experience community, co-organised by the team behind UX Cambridge and UX Scotland, and the organisers of UX Oxford.

The conference has a strong practical focus and attracted industry practitioners and decision-makers who want to provide great user experience to their clients.

Feel free to look around the site to get a feel for what happens at UX in the City: Oxford. We’ve added video coverage to the session pages where it is available, but other than that we have left most of the site as it was at the time of the event.

Session Types

Need help planning which sessions to attend? We've provided a breakdown of our various session types below.

Case Study/Experience Report

A presentation and discussion of real-life (not theoretical) experiences of the application (or mis-application) of service design techniques. Case studies and experience reports include some discussion of lessons learned and an indication of how novel the work is.

Hands-On

Participants learn a new approach, tool or technology through using it to solve one or more practical exercises. Any software/hardware requirements are disclosed in the session description.

Tutorial

A session focused around some specific tool, technique or issue. Primarily led by the speaker, tutorials usually include some elements of interactivity or individual / group exercise.

Workshop

An in-depth working session on a specific topic. May include paper presentations.

Lightning Talks

Short talks (max 10 minutes) on almost any topic.

Kelly Goto

After more than 20 years on the digital frontier, Kelly knows user experience as well or better than anybody. As a design ethnographer, she focuses on uncovering how people integrate products and services into their daily lives — what those experiences mean to people, and how to better shape that meaning. Her book, Web Redesign 2.0: Workflow That Works, is an industry classic that’s been translated into 22 languages so far.

Kelly currently heads up gotoresearch, the global leader in research-driven strategy and solutions for digital products and connected experiences. The gotoresearch team dives deep into the customer’s world, translating unspoken wants and needs into UX realities. This enables clients such as Samsung, Hyundai, Sony, Target, Verizon, and Pearson Education to relate with customers in new and innovative ways.

As a motivational and educational speaker, Kelly’s contagious enthusiasm and keen insights have galvanized audiences around the world. Bizzabo recently named her to its list of 100 Speakers Who Should Be Seen More at Tech Conferences.

Kelly travels from San Francisco, CA. And when she’s not tethered to her laptop or dreaming up the next big thing, Kelly enjoys hiking in the mountains and hanging at the beach with her husband and two hilarious, brilliant daughters.

Jeroen van Geel is Founder and creative director of the strategic design studio Oak & Morrow and the startup Beam Labs.

He has pushed forward many innovative projects, ranging from the automated passport control systems at Schiphol Airport to the smart projector Beam.

Jeroen spends 25% of his time on so-called Dream Projects, with the goal to bring back a bit of wonder into the world. Even if it’s just for himself.
